Product Description
The all-terrain rider can experience a high-tech binding at a reasonable value with the Five. The I-Flex symmetrical strap, ventilated POM hiback and baseplate are softer on this model than the M series, making it more forgiving when sticking sick airs or just cruising groomers. If you re looking for performance, comfort and convenience, this is the binding for you.

4 out of 5 stars Pleased with reservations   April 11, 2010

I was intent on purchasing Flow bindings because I am familiar with the ease of entry and exiting these bindings through a relative who uses a similar but older-style Flow binding. Although there were other less expensive models available, I chose this model hoping that the premium price would reflect a premium binding. They certainly are easy to enter and exit once they are adjusted properly, and I rate them 5 stars for this function. Since I could not find Flow bindings in stock in any local retail establishment, I was not able to compare the various Flow bindings side-by-side, and so this review specifically relates to "The Five" model bindings.

My only reservation is the in the difficulty of releasing the buckles when it is necessary to loosen the bindings, especially the rear adjusters. The bindings did not come with any instructions, so at first I was surprised that the levers on the rear adjusters were sticking out, possible ready to break off under rare exceptional circumstances (such as trees, etc.) It was only after a couple days of use that I discovered that there is a way to "pull the lever out and down" to stow the lever flush with the rest of the buckle. The problem after this is twofold: One, the binding tends to get tighter during use, and I am not exactly sure how this happens, but it is common for me to have to make adjustments during use. This leads to the second problem, which is that the lever gets stuck in the "stow" position, and is very difficult to release. The lever is so hard to release, that I fear that it will break before it releases, thus possibly leaving me stranded. So far, this has not happened, but being a part time back-country boarder, I am concerned about the reliability of the buckles, since they are in fact hard plastic, not metal as the chrome appearance might suggest. It is also nearly impossible to release these buckles with golves on.

In comparison to the older binding mentioned above, those older buckles seem simpler and a bit more reliable than the newer buckles on this particular binding. I hope that Flow eventually comes out with a better buckle, (maybe one that locks once set?), but other than that, these bindings really rock.
